ARZ conferred national “Stree Shakti Puraskar- 2014”

ARZ, an NGO based in Vasco, has been selected for the “Stree Shakti Puraskar- 2014” (Ahilya Bai Holkar), for doing yeoman service in the field of Anti Human Trafficking.
The award was presented by His Excellency the President of India in a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on the 8th of March, 2015 on the occasion of the celebration of International Women’s day.
Stree Shakti Puraskar (Women Power Award) is a series of India’s national honours conferred on individual women for their exceptional achievement. The award given in six categories, by Ministry of Women and Child Development Government of India, recognizes the spirit of courage of women in difficult circumstances, who has established this spirit of courage in her personal or professional life.
The award also recognises pioneering contribution of an individual in empowering women and raising women’s issues.
Instituted in the year 1991, the award is conferred by the President of India on occasion of International Women’s Day i.e. 8 March every year at New Delhi. The award carries a cash prize of Rupees Three Lakh (Rs. 300,000) and a citation.
For the year 2012, the award was posthumously bestowed on the 2012 Delhi gang rape victim Nirbhaya.
ARZ as part of its strategy for providing alternate economic avenues to girls and women who are rescued from trafficking or are vulnerable to be trafficked has set up a commercial industrial laundry – “Swift Wash”, that employs these women. It is the only model in Asia of a non institutional rehabilitation centre. This laundry caters to the needs of several 5 star hotels as well as several industries around Goa.
