ICDS Mormugao Celebrates Girl Child Day 24th Jan
The Girl Child Week 2014 culminated on 24th Jan – the Girl Child Day. The ICDS Mormugao celebrated the occasion at the Municipal Children’s Park with a program involving adolescent girls and 114 Anganwadi Workers of the Taluka. The ICDS in coordination with ARZ – Social Work NGO, had initiated the Safe Teens Program in which adolescent boys and girls were given information and skills to keep themselves safe and protected.
Peer Educators were trained who in turn passed on their information to their peer groups.
Three Peer Educators who had performed excellently were awarded for their contribution and commitment. Others were given a participatory certificate.
A retired Anganwadi Worker was also felicitated through contributions of her fellow workers.
Demonstrations on basic self defence and techniques of teaching in an Anganwadi were also conducted.
Ms. Fiola Rego, Councillor MMC, was the Chief Guest and Ms. Suchita Shirodkar, Councillor MMC was the Guest of Honour.
The program was coordinated by Ms.Ruth Almeida, CDPO, ICDS Mormugao along with her five supervisors.
