Tackling the growing garbage management problem is an issue that every civic body faces.
The MMC, in its effort to address this issue, has instituted house to house garbage collection system and each household has been made to segregate their waste at source in two separate bins for wet and dry non bio-degradeable garbage.
However, several citizens inform us that the very purpose of segregation is defeated as the garbage collectors dump both types of waste into one collection bin at the doorstep. When queried by diligent citizens, the collectors retort that they sort and segregate the waste later. This hardly seems practical. The authorities administering this garbage collection system need to look into this situation to ensure that their initiative to segregate waste at source is not nullified by mixed collection.
